Am I loosing my fervor for riding the highways to nowhere, for no reason?

It seems like the more I am riding out of necessity the less I am interested in heading out to the highways of no where for no reason. I don't know, maybe this will pass but it seems on the side of boring to me to ride 40 miles down the highways and bi-ways. Maybe if I had a purpose or destination such as: Riding to Brooking to see my sister and nephews or riding to Parkston to see my dad. It seems much more appealing to me to pedal 40 miles to get groceries, run errands, etc. This has much more visual stimulation than seeing an occasional cow or endless fields of soybeans and corn.

I have heard others say similar things that doing group rides seems less appealing when a person is riding everyday for transportation.

What do you think, am I loosing my fervor?

I agree -- the more I ride for the everyday stuff (work, groceries, etc.) the less I need to get out on the long rides. It's nice to to have the time to get things done around the house.

That said, I still do some of those long rides to get my "people" fix.

I feel the same way. When you get to ride everyday, for transport, the group rides seem almost silly. Yet, I do like to get out either by myself or with one or two others now and then. I think that's the wanderlust in my soul. The thought of catching a ride say 500 miles from here and then biking back over a week is very appealing to me.

mr. snakebite,

I will be driving to SE Minnesota (Lewiston) on Thursday (9 July)--leaving late afternoon-- to spend the weekend at my parents. You and your bike and gear are welcome to ride along. It ain't 500 miles from Sioux Falls, only a little more than half of that.

@gad - If I weren't required to be somewhere else that weekend, I'd be up for that! Thanks anyway!

Each brings its own sort of peace. I've had some great days riding around my town, seeing people and taking care of business or just getting where I need to go. At the same time, there are times out on the road with a few people I like, seeing the country and packing in mile after mile that are nearly transcendent. I had some days like that on the most recent Tour de Kota, that I don't think I'll ever forget. It's all just riding brother and it's all good.

Wow. I have not seen this many comments on this blog in ages. Yes, folks any sort of cycling for any reason is good. I was not saying one reason is superior but just how I was feeling at the time. Ride on. As my mom used to say. Whatever floats your boat.

BTW. Blogger posting is not mobile friendly. Hence the mr. Anonymous aka me.

A good practical ride to town (for class, groceries, parts, etc.) generally gets me my fix. But I still love a good backroad loop with no greater goal than getting back to where I started.

Riding for transport or riding on a group ride or riding by yourself on the road somewhere. Just ride your bike!
