Tour de France - does anyone care?

I'm not excited this year about watching the TDF. I have not been excited to watch it since Lance left. I know, this makes me un-cool but I don't care. It was him who got me excited about cycling. I had not even heard of the TDF up until Lance came into the picture. I was excited for a short while the day Landis killed everyone up the hills and we all know what happened. I was excited watching the chicken kill it up hills and be in first place and we all know what happened. I wish Levi and Alberta would be riding this year's TDF but I will still watch because I am forever a bike nerd.

Thanks in part to Lance.

Lance ruined cycling for Americans in the same way that Tiger ruined golf or the Beckhams are ruining soccer. If a sport, to be watched, must be driven by personality rather than the competition itself, then who will embrace it when the personality has faded?

Well, I'm glad you'll still be watching, and I'm a bike nerd, too. I also enjoyed watching Lance, but unfortunately you seem to be caught up in Lance, and not cycling. Not to dismiss Lance, but I've watch MANY great riders and races since 1986....Lemond, Hinault, Fignon, Roche, Indurain, etc., etc. And, yes, there will be many great (and clean) riders post-Lance. Lance was great, but cycling is bigger than Lance.

Never have watched it, probably won't.
I like ride, not race or watch races, unless it's Nascar.

I'll probably burn in Hell for posting this one.

Dear (2) A's,

I posted not to state the world of cycling is over post-Lance, but to state I never knew about cycling until Lance came into the picture. Just like kids got into basketball with Jordon, and yes golf is more popular with Tiger and same goes for soccer. Popular sports stars are not the demise of sports. I believe it's a good thing because the interest carries on after the sports stars are gone.

I will be watching and listening. I am a tour junkie. I watch the updates on the computer during the day and then watch the race at night on Versus.

I agree with you cycle SD!

I just watch for Bob Roll and the word of the day so I can win a bike

I don't know any of the riders, so I can't get into watching the Tour. Now if the Mayor wants to discuss NASCAR drivers, I can talk about that! (You better not be a Gordon fan, Mayor)

T minus 4 days until the tour! I'll be getting updates on my phone during FABRAD and will hold up signs for the riders.

The more people that bike (for whatever reason) the better. If the Tour, local races, triathalons, or whatever motivate people it's all good.

About Landis, the CAS ruled against him yesterday, so the trials are over and his ban finishes in January next year. While I'll agree with the CAS and consider him guilty, it's clear from both the CAS and USADA trials that there were tons of procedural, chain of custody and other problems with his prosecution. They should be held to a standard closer to American courts, not kangaroo courts
